December 25, 2008 The Foundry Company to sponsor bike race
CAMBRIDGE - The Foundry Company will be the primary sponsor of the fifth annual Tour of the Battenkill pro/amateur bicycle race in Cambridge on April 18 and 19.
After a direct appeal to Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) Executive Chairman Hector Ruiz by Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), Ruiz, an avid cyclist, agreed to a $50,000 sponsorship.
Last year's race was the largest one-day pro/am race in the United States, and online registration for this year's event indicates this year's may equal or surpass that.
This will be the first year the race has been held over two days.
This year's professional race will involve some of the top teams in the country and be run over a 200-kilometer course throughout southern Washington County.
The race benefits the Washington County Library System and Farm Team Cycling, a bicycle team for local youth.
