To keep up with the demands of our always-changing industry, Plumbers Local 773 is continually educating our members on various topics, including, but not limited to the courses detailed below.

  • Asbestos Awareness

    This 2-hour asbestos awareness training course provides a basic understanding of asbestos, its' hazards, and the ability to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in the workplace.

  • Auto Cad

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to  understand how CAD is fast becoming more and more popular on construction sites; draw a piping system using CAD software; describe how to insert fittings from manufacturers websites; coordinate piping drawings and construction drawings electronically

  • Backflow/Cross Connection Certification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand what backflow and back pressure are and how to deal with each to prevent contamination of the potable water supply; design and install the proper device to deal with the specific hazard posed by potential contaminants; describe the various components of backflow preventers and their operation; demonstrate the ability to test vacuum breakers, double check valves and reduced pressure zone backflow preventers.

  • Backflow/Cross Connection Recertification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to recertify his or her ASSE Backflow/Cross Connection Certification.

  • EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand what refrigerants are, what they do and the safe way to handle them; use a refrigerant recovery machine to safely remove old/contaminated refrigerants and properly dispose of them; describe the difference between the old “Freon” refrigerants and the new “puron” refrigerants; pass the EPA Universal test required for refrigerant handling.

  • Crane Signal Certification (NCCCO)

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able use and give hand and voice signals in crane operation.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED

    This 8 hour course teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

  • Gas and Oil Burner Service

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will understand the various types of gas/oil burners, how the combustion cycle works, identify controls, and troubleshoot Gas and Oil Burners.

  • HAZWOPER 40 Hour

    The 40-hour course is specifically designed for workers who are involved in clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. HAZWOPER 40 Hour is required for employees working on a project consisting of Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Operation mandated by the Government.

  • HAZWOPER 8 Hour Refresher

    The 8-hour Refresher Course course meets the requirements outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for 8 (eight) hours of annual refresher training for workers at hazardous waste sites. This course is designed for general site workers who remove hazardous waste or who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards.

  • Medical Gas Installer/Brazer (6010) Certification (NITC)

    The candidate shall have a minimum of four (4) years of documented practical experience in the field of installation of plumbing or mechanical systems. Certification shall include the successful completion of a minimum 32-hour training course conducted by a Medical Gas Systems Instructor certified to ASSE Standard 6050, and passing grades on (1) a multiple-choice examination covering ASSE Standard 6010 and applicable sections of NFPA 99 and (2) a proctored practical (brazing) examination.


    A Medical Gas Installer certification candidate is a qualified individual who can demonstrate competence within their scope and will be proficient in and experienced in the installation of medical gas and vacuum systems covered by the ASSE Series 6000 Standard. Installers include anyone who works on or installs piping or components, including brazers. A qualified Medical Gas Installer may perform these tasks alone, or through the supervision of other individuals.


    In addition to knowledge of product installation, a Medical Gas Installer is required to have a general knowledge of the applicable laws, codes, rules, listing agencies, and regulations from the federal, state, and local levels pertaining to medical gas and vacuum systems as well as knowledge of product performance, system and system component testing, documenting and recording, and medical gas terminology.


    Medical gas systems and equipment covered in the ASSE Series 6000 Standard include health care facilities within the scope of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. Medical gas piping systems include vacuum piping.

  • Medical Gas Installer (6010) Recertification (NITC)

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be prepared to take the most current NFPA code recertification test.

  • Clear PVC Bending

    In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of bending, fabricating and installing clear PVC and fire resistant flame tech PVC.

  • Orbital Welding

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to take the UA-18A Orbital weld test.

  • OSHA 10 Hour Safety Certification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand OSHA Safety requirements on the job site; identify possible unsafe conditions while working; describe safe working practices under various job conditions; demonstrate safe working skills while installing pipe.

  • OSHA 30 Hour Safety Certification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand OSHA Safety requirements on the job site; identify possible unsafe conditions while working; describe safe working practices under various job conditions; demonstrate safe working skills while installing pipe.

  • PVDF and Polypropylene Welding

    In this course, students will learn how to weld plastic, such as PVDF and Polypropylene, using Asahi and Georg Fischer welding machines.

  • Tube Bending

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be classified as a competent tube bender. The student will be trained in the SAG System of bending.

  • UA EPRI Industrial Rigging Certification

    Topics covered during training are Rigging, Pre-Lift Planning, Mobile Cranes, Boom Trucks, Aerial Platforms, Mobile Equipment Safety, Tower Cranes and Overhead Cranes along with Certification Training. Upon completion of training the UA/EPRI Industrial Rigging Certification will be administered, which consists of a multiple choice written exam and a hands-on performance exam. A score of 80% or above must be achieved on the written exam. All elements of the hands-on performance examination must be completed satisfactorily to pass. Individuals who do not receive a passing grade on the certification examination will be required to re-take that portion of examination they did not pass.  Individuals must pass both the written and practical portions of the certification examination in order to be certified. Once achieved, this certification is valid for a five-year period. Before expiration, individuals are required to recertify.

  • UA EPRI Industrial Rigging Recertification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to take the UA Industrial Rigging Recertification test.

  • UA/MCAA Foreman Certification

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand how important it is to be a good leader to foster harmonious working conditions on a job site; measure their own traits and compare them to the traits of others for compatibility or non-compatibility; describe job site situations that require communication skills to avoid conflicts; demonstrate how good leadership skills benefit the worker, the contractor and the customer.

  • UA STAR HVACR Mastery

    A STAR HVACR Mastery certification candidate is a qualified individual who can demonstrate mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in operations, planning, blueprint reading, safety, and the practical installation, repair, and service of HVACR systems.


    Installation, repair, and service of HVACR systems includes the design, construction, installation, alteration(retrofit), repair, service and maintenance of all boilers, HVAC air handling systems, ductwork systems, refrigeration piping systems, process piping heating and cooling systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings. A qualified Master Mechanic may perform these tasks alone, or through the supervision of other individuals.


    It is expected that the STAR HVACR Mastery examination candidate is a technician who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry.

  • UA STAR Pipefitter Mastery

    A STAR Pipefitting Mastery certification candidate is a qualified individual who can demonstrate mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in fabricating, preparing, rigging and installing pipes, tubing and equipment by following plans, specifications, SOP’s and standard pipefitting practices in order to comply with local and jurisdictional codes and help to complete the job/project safely, on schedule and to the satisfaction of the customer.


    A qualified pipefitter may perform these tasks alone, or through the supervision of other individuals.


    It is expected that the STAR Pipefitting Mastery examination candidate is a technician who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry.

  • UA STAR Plumbing Mastery

    A STAR Plumbing Mastery certification candidate is a qualified individual who can demonstrate mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in the design, installation, maintaining, servicing, and repairing water systems; drainage, waste, and vent systems; storm water systems; fuel gas systems; water heating systems; and specialty systems, utilizing knowledge of national, state, and local plumbing codes to protect the health and welfare of the general public.


    A qualified plumber may perform these tasks alone, or through the supervision of other individuals.


    It is expected that the STAR Plumbing Mastery examination candidate is a plumber who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry.

  • Welding 10 Hour

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge of what is expected in a Certified Weld test.

  • Welding 30 Hour

    Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to understand the use of various welding rods; identify the voltage/amperage/polarity to use with welding rods, joint configuration for welding procedures; demonstrate welding in the horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
